Frequently asked

Happily answered…

While we reserve designated enrollment in each age group for D/HOH children, we welcome all children! This includes hearing children with no previous exposure to ASL, children of all abilities, and children with family members who are D/HOH.

Does my child have to be Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing (D/HOH) to attend Blue Bridge ASL Academy?

Will learning ASL cause my (hearing) child to fall behind in acquiring spoken English?

Of course not! Early exposure to a visual language (such as ASL) has proven to support a strong model of spoken language acquisition and literacy throughout a lifetime.

If my family isn’t fluent in ASL, how will we communicate with my child at home?

Included in enrollment, all Blue Bridge families have access to free ASL classes! This means you’ll be learning alongside your Bilingual Baby, and you’ll be able to support your child in their ASL acquisition, while also learning yourself. Our approach is family based because we truly look at this program as more than just childcare. Our goal is to foster effective communication and inclusion throughout our entire community.

How can I communicate with my child’s teachers if I’m not fluent in their native language?

We intentionally equip every classroom with a tablet and on-demand, video remote interpreting (VRI) services available for free at the touch of a button. You and yours will never have to worry about language access and effective communication here at Blue Bridge. It’s our promise.

My child requires specialized private therapy appointments (ie. speech, physical, behavioral, etc). How can Blue Bridge support these initiatives?

We wholly believe it takes a village! That’s precisely why we make our very own, in-house, therapy spaces freely reservable for parents, students, and their private service providers/therapists. We also offer free WiFi and rockstar parking for these members of our community.
